Gerry's Lasagna

It is believed by Gerry's friends that beer improves the flavor of this recipe if consumed by the chef.

You will need a package of sliced mozzarella cheese to build this lasagna.

Meat Sauce:

1 - 28 oz. can whole tomatoes (drained)
1 - 15 oz. can tomato sauce
1 - 6 oz. can tomato paste
1 1/2 lbs. ground beef, low fat
6 links Italian sausage (you choose the heat)
1 medium onion, chopped
1 small can sliced mushrooms

Brown meat, sausage (removed from casing) and onion.  Drain fat. Add remaining ingredients, plus    salt
          ground pepper
          oregano
          fresh parsley
          pre-mixed Italian spices
          chopped garlic

The beauty of this recipe is that the chef decides on the amounts of these added ingredients thereby adjusting it to their own taste.

BOIL   3/4 of a box of lasagna noodles.

CHEESE FILLING:
1 large carton cottage cheese
5 ozs. grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg, slightly whipped
1 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley.

Layer in a 9 x 13 casserole...

  1. noodles
  2. cheese filling
  3. meat sauce
  4. sliced mozzarella cheese
  5. repeat, and end with meat sauce.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Remove from oven. Top with more sliced mozzarella. Let stand 10 minutes and then serve.  Have a beer in Gerry's memory.
