Gerry's Lasagna
It is believed by Gerry's
friends that beer improves the flavor of this recipe if consumed by the chef.
You will need a package of sliced mozzarella cheese to build this lasagna.
Meat Sauce:
1 - 28 oz. can whole tomatoes (drained)
1 - 15 oz. can tomato sauce
1 - 6 oz. can tomato paste
1 1/2 lbs. ground beef, low fat
6 links Italian sausage (you choose the heat)
1 medium onion, chopped
1 small can sliced mushrooms
Brown meat, sausage (removed from casing) and onion.
Drain fat. Add remaining ingredients, plus salt
ground pepper
oregano
fresh parsley
pre-mixed Italian spices
chopped garlic
The beauty of this recipe is that the chef decides on the
amounts of these added ingredients thereby adjusting it to their own taste.
BOIL 3/4 of a box of lasagna noodles.
CHEESE FILLING:
1 large carton cottage cheese
5 ozs. grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg, slightly whipped
1 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley.
Layer in a 9 x 13 casserole...
- noodles
- cheese filling
- meat sauce
- sliced mozzarella cheese
- repeat, and end with meat sauce.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Remove from oven. Top with more sliced
mozzarella. Let stand 10 minutes and then serve. Have a beer in Gerry's
memory.
